Washing Instructions
How do I wash cloth diapers?
Before first use:
- Wash and dry All-In-One diapers & microfiber inserts at least two times in very hot water with 1 Tablespoon or less of natural detergent
- Be sure all detergent is rinsed from diapers
- Pocket Diapers & Covers need to be washed only one time before use
- Wash hemp or cotton alone for the first few washings to wash-out the natural oils found in natural fibers
- Natural fibers & microfiber inserts become more absorbent with subsequent washings
When diapers are soiled:
- Wash cloth diapers every 2-3 days
- Close
laundry tabs & remove inserts prior to placing diapers & covers in
laundry pail
- Be sure diapers are out of
the pail liner
- Push the diapers out using the liner like a
glove - no need to touch dirty diapers
- Regular cold wash cycle with no detergent
- Very hot heavy wash cycle with 1-2 Tablespoons natural detergent, oxygen bleach & extra rinse as needed to rinse ALL detergent from diapers
- Adjust detergent accordingly for smaller loads
- Give an extra hot wash with no detergent as needed
Drying:
- Diapers & Covers may be hung to dry or put in the dryer on medium-high heat
- Hang-dry Covers & Pocket Diapers to extend their life
- No
fabric softener!
Do not use:
- detergents with phosphates, enzymes, dyes, brighteners, softeners
- fabric softener
- too much detergent - may cause residue on diapers
How do I store dirty diapers before washday? Our Doorknob Diaper Pail works great! It also allows air to circulate, thus less odor.
Another option is the dry pail method. Line your diaper pail with a
waterproof diaper pail liner like our Doorknob Diaper Pail. Place diapers into pail after dumping any
solids into the toilet. Close laundry tabs and remove any inserts. Cover with a loose fitting lid, or remove the
lid altogether – exposure to the air will actually decrease odors. The
wet pail method is no longer recommended as it is a drowning hazard,
and may break down natural fibers sooner.
What if I get a stain? If stains do occur, hang diapers in the sun with or without lemon juice to bleach them out naturally.
How do I lessen diaper pail odors? Sprinkle your Doorknob Diaper Pail (or other pail) with Fluff Dust or Baking Soda.
